Experience the unveiling of our very first collection, alongside the premiere of our short film Zagbeto, inspired by folklore from West Africa. Let us celebrate the voices of those whose stories are being told and those who helped capture them.
On NOV 16th, Historie Commun will be launching the inaugural collection entitled Zāgbéto, inspired by folklore stories from my childhood. It originates from the Ogu people of West Africa and is known as a guardian spirit representing order and wisdom. It shares similarities with folklore from Dutch migrant communities, as well as of Polish, Turkish, and Surinamese descent, such as Ev Iyesi, Krampus, Māui, and the Leba. Film synopsis: The story of Zāgbéto serves as a whimsical bridge between past and present, crafting a dialogue between tradition and modernity. As cultures evolve, ancient customs often find themselves cast into the shadows of the occult, stigmatized by the very society they once nourished. This film invites you to explore the enchanting space between the spiritual and the occult. How do these misunderstood rituals coexist with contemporary perspectives? Can they still illuminate the human experience, or are they destined to be marginalized on our journey to modernity? We hope this collection inspires meaningful dialogue and fosters connections. Kom naar een onvergetelijke avond vol cultureel erfgoed en mode. Ervaar de onthulling van onze allereerste collectie, samen met de première van onze korte film Zagbeto, geïnspireerd op folklore uit West-Afrika. Laten we de stemmen vieren van degenen wiens verhalen worden verteld en degenen die hebben geholpen deze vast te leggen.
Op 16 NOV, lanceert Historie Commun de eerste collectie met de titel Zāgbéto, geïnspireerd op folkloreverhalen uit mijn jeugd. Het is afkomstig van het Ogu-volk uit West-Afrika en staat bekend als een beschermgeest die staat voor orde en wijsheid. Het vertoont overeenkomsten met folklore uit Nederlandse migrantengemeenschappen, maar ook met die van Poolse, Turkse en Surinaamse afkomst, zoals Ev Iyesi, Krampus, Māui en de Leba. Samenvatting van de film: Het verhaal van Zāgbéto dient als een grillige brug tussen verleden en heden en creëert een dialoog tussen traditie en moderniteit. Naarmate culturen evolueren, worden oude gebruiken vaak in de schaduw van het occulte geplaatst, gestigmatiseerd door de samenleving die ze ooit voedden. Deze film nodigt je uit om de betoverende ruimte tussen het spirituele en het occulte te verkennen. Hoe coëxisteren deze verkeerd begrepen rituelen met hedendaagse perspectieven? Kunnen ze de menselijke ervaring nog steeds verlichten, of zijn ze gedoemd om gemarginaliseerd te worden op onze reis naar de moderniteit?
