Transperceneige is a French comic book written by Jacques Lob and illustrated by Jean-Marc Rochette. Published originally in 1980, it tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world where the temperature of the planet dropped way below 0°C, making life outside impossible. What remains from humanity is stuck on a never-stopping train. The story is a criticism of the direction our societies are taking, combining authoritarian regimes, a class system and religious fanaticism being both the cause and the consequence of the ecological disaster we are living in. Since then, the books were turned into a movie by Bong Joon-Ho, and a series produced by Netflix under the name of Snowpiercer.
Under the direction of Gael Doorneweerd-Perry, Flock Theatre has created a live performance inspired by this tale. The spontaneous theatre play brings together the themes that are at the heart of the original material, with a twist of improvisation to create a unique and original story on every show. The cast of six actors, two musicians, a narrator/technician and a costume designer create on-stage improvised characters, dialogues, stories and soundtracks. Suggestions from the audience will inspire the narrator to set the play, and the pieces of costume prepared by the costume designer will inspire the characters of each specific show.
