During NOTATIONS we will make a collaborative visual artwork that functions as visual work, graphic musical score, documentation, and social sculpture. During the workshop, participants are guided in a listening meditation that slowly transforms to become a vocal meditation, and that finally becomes free vocal improvisation. From there we will notate our collective instant composition, while at the same time continuing our vocalisations. Therewith, we will attempt to make a direct imprint of our sounds onto a large sheet of paper (10m x 1,5m). We will not use traditional musical notation, numbers, or written language, but instead notate our music intuitively in lines, movements, shapes, textures, and structures to create a dynamic musical and visual composition.

ABOUT ROBIN BECKER
Robin Becker is an artistic researcher based in Rotterdam (NL) and Leipzig (DE). His transmedial practice takes place at the intersection of music, performance, visual art, workshop, event organisation, and academics. By combining these media in ever changing configurations, he aims to foster ongoing practices of being, as Karen Barad writes, ‘open and alive to each meeting (…) so that we might use our ability to respond (…) to breathe life into ever new possibilities for living justly’ and invites audiences and collaborators to join and participate in this.
