After a successful tour in the UK, Swedish-American author Alvina Chamberland is also coming to the Netherlands!
Her English-language debut novel, Love the World or Get Killed Trying, was published this month by The New Menard Press.
With playful, poetic prose, sharp socially critical insights, self-mockery, and gallows humor, we delve into the head of Alvina, a trans woman who is almost thirty. She invites the reader on her journeys through the breathtaking wilderness of Iceland and the busy streets of Berlin and Paris. There she delves into issues of infinity, sexuality, desire, death, love, and how difficult it is to remain soft when you're constantly a target of the secret lust and open disgust of straight men. Love the World or Get Killed Trying explores universal issues from the specific perspective of a trans woman and testifies to the fact that such experiences have to do with much more than just sexuality and gender.
Alvina Chamberland is a Swedish-American writer of mainly literary autofiction. In 2018, her novel Utelåst – Uppväxt- nostalgi för freaks (Locked Out. A nostalgic account of coming of age for freaks), a coming-of-age parody, was published. She lives alternately in Athens and Berlin and doesn't really have any hobbies, just intensity and serenity. Love the World or Get Killed Trying is her first English-language book.
