This workshop is part of a workshop series called “HerArt”, focusing on female artists and their work. This workshop is dedicated to Artemisia Gentileschi, an Italian painter. You will learn about her life, career, and techniques.

In the first part of the workshop, you will learn the basis of Chiaroscuro and Tenebrism to create dramatic scenes and bring light from dark backgrounds to create your own baroque artwork. In the second part of the workshop, you will create your own Baroque Art piece.

Duration: 3 hrs.

Workshop Breakdown:

• Short introduction of the artist and of the group (15-20min)
• Short history class about Artemisia Gentileschi and her career. We will also talk about the main characteristics of Baroque Art (30 min).
• Group Activity: Playing with lights, Chiaroscuro and Tenebrism. Putting in practice the main techniques of Baroque (40 min).

Break (20 min)

• Individual Baroque Art piece (60 min). You will select your own materials (you can share paint and brushes)
• Painting your own baroque art piece using the techniques of Chiaroscuro.
• Wrapping up and farewell (10 min)

No experience required. Materials and snacks included.
