A transformative painting workshop that invites you to explore the realms of contemporary art, storytelling, and elegant home decor. Experience the joy of creating through techniques that align with modern artistic trends, empowering you to unfold your unique style and expression.
In a special segment of the workshop, we embark on a collective mural creation, channeling pure, childlike expressionism and use art as an universal language inspired by ancient cave paintings and hieroglyphics.
This mural aims to craft an honest visual representation of society, woven with our diverse stories and expressions. This powerful creation seeks to serve as a valuable historical, psychological, and sociological archive, offering profound insights for present and future generations, aiding in the understanding and appreciation of our human journey.
In another section of the workshop, we’ll dive into the art of decorative wall painting, a trend that’s been catching on in homes recently. You'll learn straightforward (abstract) painting techniques that can transform your living space. This includes by creating a wall painting but can be applied to your furniture as well. After this workshop, you’ll be able to create a unique wall painting that complements your home’s design, adding that personal touch without the need for an outside artist.
- Contemporary Painting Techniques: Learn methods aligned with today’s artistic trends.
- Personal Style Development: Explore and nurture your unique artistic expressions and get personal tips in how to use techniques which fit into your personal style or learn how to visualize your ideas and stories.
- Elegant Home Decor: Discover how to beautify spaces with personal and stylish touches by using wall painting as a way to enhance your home decor, by using similar techniques as being used by contemporary abstract painters.
- Collective Mural Creation: Contribute to a mural that encapsulates a rich tapestry of societal stories and expressions.

Naomi Mitsuko Makkelie (1992) initiated this global project with the aim to document contemporary society through a series of murals. These artworks serve as historical archives and social experiments, addressing pressing issues like individualism and societal pressures, while critiquing the current state of the art world. She collaborates with her mother, Ellen Makkelie (1965), a fellow Treehouse Resident, to bring this workshop to life.
